Paramita Banerjee is a grassroots social activist with extensive experience of working in the domains of gender and sexuality, sexual and reproductive health rights, adolescent and youth development, and child rights since the late 1980s. As a MacArthur Fellow for Leadership Development, she implemented an adolescent leadership development programme with adolescents living in red light areas in Kolkata, which led to the foundation of her organization, DIKSHA, in 2001. Her approach to gender justice has been fundamentally shaped by her lived experiences, her commitment to amplify marginalized voices as well as her deep engagement with grassroots activism through the women’s movement.
